How to Know What Shoes to Buy for Peloton
UPDATE: I made a YouTube video with this information as well - watch here!
Congrats! You’ve found yourself with the opportunity to ride the state-of-the-art Peloton bike. Now, to get the most experience, it’s definitely recommended to buy cycling shoes while using the bike. Cycling shoes give you extra power when you ride, which means more calories burned and more of that endorphin high.
Before you buy shoes, make sure you know what kind of pedals your Peloton bike has. According to Peloton, at-home bikes are fitted with LOOK Delta cleats (these are the ones with three holes), while commercial Peloton bikes (the ones in your apartment, neighborhood, or hotel gym) are fitted with SPD cleats.
Check your pedals and identify what you’re working with. Here’s what each look like:
Once you’ve figured out which shoes fit with your pedals, you can find the appropriate shoe and cleat for you. Here are my picks based on the type of pedal your bike is outfitted with*.
LOOK Delta
Peloton Spin Shoes (also available here)- If you haven’t yet purchased your Peloton, you can get $100 off with a referral code from a friend or family member with a Peloton Bike or Tread! That ends up being only $25 for the shoes (with cleats included!).
If they need help finding their code, click here or reach out to Peloton with their name.
If you’re starting the trend and need a code, use code “UMS4F9” for $100 off.
Shimano Spin Shoes (I use these with my bike and love them - you can also price compare with Backcountry!)
LOOK Delta Cleats (you can take these to your local bike store and they’ll put these on for your for free!)
OR I recently discovered this brand on Amazon that has the cleats already installed - game changer! (I have the white/pink ones and they fit true to size!)
SPD
TIEM Spin Shoes for women (I have these and love them for in studio classes!) - check Nordstrom for more color ways!
Shimano Spin Shoes for men
*Buying new spin shoes is not the cheapest. I used points I accrued on the drop app to cash in for an Amazon gift card and used that to get my shoes and cleats!
BONUS - If you like to take spin classes in studios, most spin studio pedals are compatible with BOTH cleats so no matter which one you have, you’ll be good to clip in and rock your ride.
Happy Spinning!
