Read This Summer and Score FREE Washington Nationals Tickets!

I am a HUGE fan of the public library. One of the number one ways that I save money throughout the year is by borrowing books to my Kindle from the public library. This way, I never spend money on books and don’t have tons of books that I only sort of like cluttering my home.

One of the other often-forgotten perks of using your local library is their Summer Reading Program. While these are typically thought of as kids-only programs, most public libraries also offer an adult program that includes all kinds of prizes.

If you’re in the DC area, here are some of the programs to check out.

Washington, D.C.

Read 20 minutes a day from June 1 - August 31, tracking your progress using the Beanstack app, and you can score a free book, two Nationals tickets, and potential to win a grand prize!

Arlington County

Complete 25 days of reading from June 1 - September 1 and get a voucher for two tickets to see the Nats! If you keep reading, you’ll also be entered into the grand prize drawing for a chance to watch a Nats game from a private suite. AND for every participant in the challenge, $1 is donated to provide books to the Arlington County Children’s Advocacy Center.

Alexandria

Read books between June 17 - September 8 and enter to win their grand prize (likely gift cards to local businesses).

Fairfax County

This is the first year that Fairfax County has had an adult summer reading program! Track your reading and turn in your logs to receive prizes for each completed log and entry into their grand prize drawing. (The grand prize isn’t specified but sponsors of the program include Starbucks and Potbelly so that should be a good hint!)

Remember too that the library is great for more than just beach reads. I love checking out cookbooks, interior decorating, and even instructional books (on the wait list for this one) from the library!
