Studio Review: Barry's Bootcamp D.C.

Studio Review: Barry's Bootcamp D.C.

We're back with our latest studio review today featuring Barry's Bootcamp! Barry's Bootcamp started in LA in 1998 and arrived in D.C. just this past December. Barry's may sound super intimidating with its list of celebrity clients and super fit trainers but take it from me, it's a great workout and you can totally do it!!

Barry's classes are designed to keep your heart rate elevated and burn major calories by varying your workout between cardio on a treadmill and floor work with weights. You switch between either station three times and spend about five to six minutes per set. If you're nervous about one element or the other I swear it's over before you know it.

  • Studio: Barry's Bootcamp, D.C.

  • Location: Dupont Circle

  • Transportation Info:

    • Metro: Yes! The studio is right behind the Dupont South Metro entrance on 19th St. - Red Line. It's also an easy walk from Farragut West for us Orange/Silver/Blue line folks.

    • Parking: Godspeed.

    • Bikeshare: There's a stop two blocks away at 20th & O St.

  • Class Taken + Class Length: Full Body (55 Minutes)

    • Other Classes Offered: Barry's classes during the week target different areas (Monday is arms and abs, etc.) and classes on Friday-Sunday target full body. Note - you can also opt for doing Double Floor in any of the classes if you're not into the treadmill portion for whatever reason.

  • Good for Beginners? If you're currently working out regularly, you can definitely tackle Barry's!

  • Sweat Level: A solid glisten. The sweat towel provided during class was definitely used and the cool cucumber towel provided post-class was most appreciated.

  • Sore After: A little! I was expecting to be more sore from running but it was really my arms that I was feeling after. My friend said her abs were really feeling it -- so expect to be sore just TBD where.

  • Vibe: The vibe is totally what defines Barry's. The studio itself has an extremely cool vibe with clothes for sale when you walk in, the nicest front desk staff and Barry's signature Fuel Bar where you can pre-order a smoothie to have ready for you after you finish your workout. The red lighting during class is also inspiring - it somehow makes you look super toned and since you look super toned, you're inspired to keep on lifting those weights and sprinting those sprints.

  • Amenities: Barry's provides you with sweat towels for during class, cool cucumber towels for a refreshing post-class cool down, an on-site smoothie bar to refuel, lockers to store your personal items and showers, pearl tampons (!!!), and hair products to freshen up post class.

  • What To Wear: Standard workout attire (think legging capris and/or shorts and a tank top). We definitely noticed that a lot of people were wearing black in class, which totally fit the Barry's vibe.

  • What To Bring To Class: WATER BOTTLE.  We went through an entire water bottle during the class.  No other special equipment necessary.

  • Price: $$$

    • New Member Special: We received a 3 for $85 offer after our first class, which brings each class to $28.

    • Drop-In Price: $34

    • On ClassPass?: Nope (not in D.C. at least)

  • Try If You Like: Running and OrangeTheory

  • Sweat Smarter Summary: If you work out on the regular, DON'T BE INTIMIDATED BY BARRY'S. It's a great workout and you can 100% do it. The red light, pumping music, and near constant encouragement and direction from your instructor keep you focused on pushing yourself and make the class go super fast! With those things said, $34 is steep for a class so figure out if you need the group encouragement or if you could push yourself to get similar results on your own at the gym. Until then, we'll keep our eyes pealed for Barry's deals!

Let me know if there’s a studio that you’d like to see reviewed or if you’re a studio and would like to have Sweat Smarter come try a class!
